Time-out Doomsday in Twenty Years

Time is running out - and why I care.

In an endless array of Days to Celebrate, today is the ’T minus twenty’ years to January 19th 2038. This is the date when time runs out! Unix reference date - Epoch - rounds 2,147,483,647 seconds from January 1st 1970 (Year Zero - Epoch) according to computers.

2,147,483,647 happens to be the limit of what the 32-bit signed unix time can accumulate before the dreadful Stack Overflow occurs. And then computer-time reset to Zero...

The world is ran on time based on Epoch Unix Time. You can check what time it is here.

Bill Gates once said: ‘640K is more memory than anyone will ever need.’

Why I care?! The Y2K hype clearly demonstrated how easy money can be made off an obfuscated and hyped combination of fear, lack of knowledge and ignorance of the general public. It’ll be fun ;-)

Spoiler-alert ; we do have 64-bit time that will take care of things beynd the expexted exipartion date of our echosystem.

Until then…
